What is a DVD?
A DVD is the newest format of high quality video that
will ultimately supersede the traditional VHS videocassette
tape. Video hire shops rent 70% of all movies on DVD.
DVDs give the person watching much greater control,
allowing them to select an area of the disc to watch
without the need to fast forward or rewind. Perfect
still pictures can also be seen when pausing a DVD.
On one DVD, a selection of different media can be stored,
including traditional video, black and white or colour
photographs, 35mm slides as well as cine film. This
means that all memories, which have been collected over
the last 50 to 60 years, can be brought together, on one
disc, for your family's viewing pleasure.
Once the DVD has been created, it can be duplicated
to produce as many copies as necessary to share your
memories with the whole family.
To use a Digital Pro DVD at home, you will need a DVD
player that can play DVD-R. These players are available
at most department stores and electrical retailers, costing
as little as $150.

What is a Background Effect Video?
A Background Effect Video is produced
by filming a subject (i.e. child in a Child Care Centre)
in front of a green or blue sheet of material. While the
subject is being filmed, the video image from the camera
is combined with another video stream, from a DVD that was
filmed previously, and the two video streams are merged,
using specialist equipment, to produce a final output video.
The subject appears to interact with the background image,
due to the careful instruction and questions asked during
the filming process. |

Why would I want a Background Effect Video made?
Background Effect Videos are very special, as they are
a permanent snapshot of your child or children at a particular
moment in time. The video is available on VHS or DVD.
It is presented in a very professional package, making
it an ideal present for Parents, Grandparents or other
members of the family. |

What happens if I don't want my Child filmed?
Two weeks before any filming takes place, a permission
slip will be sent home with every child. This slip gives
the parent the opportunity to request that their child
is not filmed. If the slip is not completed and returned
to the centre, prior to the first day of filming, then
the child will be filmed, and a video sent home with
the child for the parents to review, with no obligation.

How much space is required to do the filming?
An area of 4 metres by 2 metres is required to film

How much work needs to be done by the Child Care

What advantage is there for the Child Care Centre
or School?
The main advantage for the Child Care Centre or School
is the funds raised by the production and sale of these
videos. Additional benefits include that the parents
have a permanent memory of the time the child has spent
at that Centre or School, which will be shown to family
and friends and will reflect positively on the Centre
or School.
